Parts Catalogues
These catalogues and diagrams proved priceless in rebuilding our Land Rover Series 2 (ARN 111-387). The numbered diagrams and original Part Numbers are still relevant today, allowing you to search global suppliers like Paddock Spares with pinpoint accuracy.
Even though I am based in Brisbane, the vast majority of our spares-including chassis panels and drive shafts-came from the UK. Shipping via DHL often took only 5 days, which was actually faster (and often 50% cheaper) than buying locally. It's a crazy reality of the restoration world!
The craziest priced part was a 3/8in UNF left-hand threaded bolt for the new camshaft. After scouring the world from Dubai to Cyprus and finding nothing, a local machine shop made one up. Total cost: $96 for a single bolt. Sometimes restoration demands a heavy "patience tax!"
From finding a camshaft in Dubai to air filter canisters in Yorkshire, eBay and the 'Land Rover Treasure Shop' in Cyprus became our best friends during this 3-year project.
Have you successfully sourced your parts? Fixed that wiring gremlin? See why all this hard work is worth it, because we are now driving our restored Land Rover from Australia to the UK!
Installing aftermarket parts that fail in 500km is a hard lesson. Always aim for original New Old Stock (NOS).
